Dear Colleagues
It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Vienna for the 16th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
“European Dermatology and Venereology: strong past - stronger future”
- the main theme of our Congress should be a reminder of the fact that many of the achievements of our speciality are based on co-operation and the exchange of knowledge at Pan-European and worldwide level and that for our future growth we need to intensify this co-operation.
The 16th Congress of the EADV will provide excellent opportunities to bring you up to date with all important diagnostic and therapeutic developments in Dermatology and Venereology. It will feature plenary lectures, courses, symposia and workshops on topics of high priorities for office and hospital based dermatovenereologists, organized and delivered by experts who are on the cutting edge of their respective fields. Our programme ranges from infectious skin diseases to phlebology, from genetics in dermatology to skin resurfacing and rejuvenation and from dermatopathology to the latest advances in the therapy of psoriasis. In addition, several sessions are dedicated to dermatological practice outside Europe and the programme will allow a view of the work of our colleagues in China, India and Africa. The programme of the 16th EADV Congress includes 10 plenary and what’s new lectures, 48 Symposia, 25 workshops, 13 courses, 12 lunch sessions and 12 free communications sessions for which more than 1700 abstracts have been submitted and reviewed. Besides its own programme, the EADV also continues its partnership with specialized dermatological societies that will hold meetings at the Congress venue on the Wednesday prior to the Congress Opening.
An important factor in the completion of our Congress are symposia sponsored and organized by Industry. This year 26 such satellite symposia and 10 meet the expert events will provide in-depth discussions on the progress and on the newest findings in the diagnosis and treatment of various skin conditions ranging from photoaging and dry skin to skin tumours.
Vienna, located in the very centre of Europe, gives you its own very warm welcome. In the leisure time between and after the scientific programme of the Congress you will have ample opportunity to explore the city and its surroundings deciding for yourself, which part of this beautiful cosmopolitan city you like most: historical Vienna with its plentiful museums, galleries and palaces; musical Vienna with its opera houses and concert halls, or gastronomic Vienna with its traditional inns, coffee houses and wineries. A 10 minute subway ride will take you from the Congress venue directly into the city centre where most of the cultural and gastronomic “hotspots” are within walking distance (http://info.wien.at).
The EADV, the Local Organising Committee and the scientific chairs have worked hard over the past year to make the 16th EADV Congress a most memorable scientific event for you. Vienna will contribute its charm and beauty to also make your stay an exceptional social and cultural experience.
